Vertical view of the Workflow

At the moment, the workflow steps are displayed horizontally. But our workflow is very flat and there's lots of steps.
Would it not make more sense to display the workflow from top to bottom (vertical)?
Or at least a toggle in the view on how to display it?

Thanks for upvoting this! It's a concept we've been tossing around as we overhaul our UI into something better. We've tried UX testing the vertical view and people have been more confused by it, but it could be because they're accustomed to horizontal. We're still exploring.

Also workflow view should keep execution branches visible. In our workflow we have several branches with manual approval and then just single path of steps, but in workflow view it is impossible to see what is happening because ordering of jobs in each level is random so visually there is just bunch of boxes with line connecting each and every one of them.

And it doesn't help that my job naming is so that common part is in beginning and difference (env, component) is in end of job name, which is not visible without hovering on job box.
