BuildKit in docker-compose is supported starting version 1.25.0., but current machine images don’t have that version. Please update the version of docker-compose.

docker-compose 1.25 is available in the ubuntu-1604:202004-01 image on Machine executor. See the following docs section for more details:https://circleci.com/docs/2.0/configuration-reference/#available-machine-images
